North Canterbury Deerstalkers Association will conduct this trip with all care within its control Wilderness Hunting can be a dangerous activity. Responsibility for normal safety and conduct remains the responsibility of the individuals. Do not extend beyond your capabilities.

TRIP SUMMARY

Trip to be planned and actual dates confirmed.  This Hunt will take place over approx one week but members can hunt some or all of the allocated time.  Travel down to the lodge is by personal vehicle.  Beumont Sth of Dunedin.  Turn onto HWY 8 off St HWY1 to Lawrence just south of Milton.  Lodge bookings $15 per night for NZDA members

You can hunt fallow deer and feral pigs in the Blue Mountains Recreational Hunting Area. The area has been divided into 23 hunting blocks which are balloted monthly from February through to the end of November.  Trip organiser will arrange DOC Block Ballot permit for all participants

The branch is organising a hunt to stay in the North Otago Lodge in Beaumont hunting selected blocks.  Comprehensive block maps are available on the above DOC website.

Easy to medium hunting, A DOC permit is required to hunt on public conservation land. The RHA is dominated by silver beech forest with large open tussock tops to the west.  The bush in the northern area is much shorter and denser. The RHA is surrounded by exotic forest plantations to the east and northwest and by farmland to the southwest.

 

The lodge is well equipped with showers, cooking equipment, Bunk rooms, a TV and even a pub just up the road.  Don’t rely on pub meals it closes if the publican goes walkabout.

Required Gear: Minimum recommendations for every Hunt is Personal Location Beacon (PLB), GPS, Map, Compass, and a suitable form of communication.
