TRIP SUMMARY

We will stay at the Jollie River DOC hut which has 5 bunks and room for sleeping on the floor with inflatable/foam mats.  Those that have a 3 season tent should bring it in case there is no room in the hut.  We will be conducting some cleaning and simple maintenance of the hut and surrounds while we are there.

We will be able to take a limited number of vehicles with our gear to the hut across Mt Cook Station.  The walk to camp from the farm gate is 3km.

There are two forms of hunting available on this trip:

1) River flats.  The terrain will be mostly flat.  The trip requires a low level of personal fitness combined with a low level of hunting experience.  A typical hunt of this kind will take 2 hours and requires a low level of navigation skills.  Typical shooting distances will be 50 – 100m

2) Open tops.  The terrain will be a combination of flat and steep alpine terrain.  Requires a moderate level of fitness and moderate level of hunting experience.  A typical hunt of this kind will take 10 hours and requires a low level of navigation skills. Typical shooting distances are likely to be 200m+.

Required Gear: Minimum recommendations for every Hunt are Personal Location Beacon (PLB), GPS, Map, Compass, and a suitable form of communication.
Bunks available in hut but attendees should bring tents in case hut is full. Limited vehicle access available.

Meeting Point: Four Square Tekapo carpark, 22 Rapuwai Lane, Lake Tekapo
